Ice & Water Barrier (IWS): waterproofing where it counts
Ice & water barrier is a self-sealing membrane installed in the most leak-prone areas of your roof. Here’s what it is, how it works, and where we install it on every roof.
Critical, leak-prone areas
- Roof valleys, where two roof planes meet and channel water
- Around roof penetrations (pipes, vents, skylights, chimneys)
- Other vulnerable transitions and areas when applicable
Installed on every roof we complete
Ice & water barrier (IWS) is a self-adhering membrane that provides an additional waterproofing layer, helps protect the roof decking and vulnerable areas from water intrusion, and self-seals around roofing fasteners. Texas Roofing & Construction installs it on every roof we complete, in the critical areas above.
Two types, two jobs
Not all IWS is the same—here’s the difference and where each is used.
Standard Ice & Water Barrier
Used in valleys, around penetrations and other vulnerable areas on typical shingle roofs. Provides an extra waterproofing layer that self-seals around fasteners.
High-Temperature Ice & Water Barrier
Engineered for applications that see higher temperatures or need enhanced protection—including certain metal roofing assemblies and, beneath shingles, on low-slope areas and roofs over pool/enclosed-pool areas.
